Wren & Rye is a small catering company built around one idea: the menu should come after the conversation. They ask who is coming, what the room is like, and what you actually want the night to feel like - then they write to that, using whatever the farms are cutting that month.
The cooking is Southern without the costume. Buttermilk-brined chicken with a sorghum glaze, field peas cooked with smoked tomato, cornbread baked in the pan it is served in. In spring the menu turns green and sharp; by September it is all tomatoes and corn and long-braised things.
They cap themselves at two events a weekend. It means they turn work away, and it means the chef who quoted your event is the one standing at the pass on the night.
